← The Partnership Table · Lesson 2 of 4
The first bid is a sentence
A bid is not a boast. It is a short sentence to your partner: "I have at least 12 points and at least five hearts", for example.
Your partner cannot see your cards, so every bid is a clue. Good partners keep their promises: if a bid means five hearts, you have five hearts.
That is why bridge rewards regular partnerships. Over time you learn each other's sentences.
Why is it important that a bid means the same thing every time?
A lesson is kept once you've answered the question and written at least 8 words. Nobody grades it; it stays on this device.
