← Ahead, Not Alone · Lesson 2 of 4

The mind can run ahead of the hands

A child may understand an idea years before they can write it down neatly, sit still for it, or cope with getting it wrong in front of others.

That gap is normal. It is why a six-year-old who can reason about negative numbers may still cry over a wobbly line.

Meeting the mind where it is, while letting the hands and feelings grow at their own pace, is usually kinder than pushing both.

One question

Your child explains a hard idea beautifully but melts down when asked to write it. What is most likely?

Say it back
A lesson is kept once you've answered the question and written at least 8 words. Nobody grades it; it stays on this device.
