← The Circle at Our Table · Lesson 2 of 6

Answer at their size

About it

Answer the opening with something small, in the child’s own currency. If they hold out the spoon, take it, pretend to taste, and hand it back. A short, matching reply leaves room for theirs.

A big answer (a long sentence, a new toy, a lesson about spoons) ends the circle instead of continuing it. Smaller than you think is usually right.

One question

A child bangs a cup on the table twice and looks up. Which answer is at their size?

Say it back
A lesson is kept once you've answered the question and written at least 8 words. Nobody grades it; it stays on this device.
