← First Reading at Home · Lesson 3 of 4

Start with their own name

About it

The first letters most children care about are the ones in their own name. Begin there: "That's your M! Who else has an M?" Family names come next.

Write the name big, with a capital first and small letters after, the way it will look on a coat hook at school. Point to each letter as you say it, left to right.

NameTots builds a child's alphabet out of their own name and the family's. The name is never sent anywhere; it stays on your phone.

One question

Which is the best first word to write with a child of four?

Say it back
A lesson is kept once you've answered the question and written at least 8 words. Nobody grades it; it stays on this device.
