The Slow Table
For a player whose eyes, hands or patience need the board to go slower: a grandparent after an operation, a friend who is new to the game, anyone who would rather not be hurried. One switch, and every board on this site changes.
The switch
The Slow Table is off.
It is saved on this device only. Turn it off here at any time.
What it changes
- Tap, then tap. Every board here moves by tapping a piece and then a square. Nothing has to be dragged. Always true here.
- Bigger pieces. The board fills more of the screen and the pieces are larger. Turned on by the switch.
- More contrast. Darker lines and stronger colours on the squares and pieces. Turned on by the switch.
- Every move read aloud. Your browser's own voice reads each move as it happens. Nothing is recorded or sent. Turned on by the switch.
- No clocks. No game here has a clock. Take as long as you like over a move. Always true here.
Try it on Chess, Go or Four in a Row.
At the table
- Say each move out loud as you make it, even when the screen does too.
- Wait until the other player says "your turn" before you reach for a piece.
- If someone wants to take a move back, let them. It is a game, not a test.
