The Practice Card
“Practise for twenty minutes” tells a child how long to sit, not what to do. A practice card names two or three small things to get done, and the practice is over when they are. Write the card together.
Why goals and not minutes
Music teachers have long said it: a clock measures time spent, not what changed. A goal you can hear done (“even notes in the left hand”) or see done (“bars 5 to 8”) gives the practice a finish line and something to notice. Two or three is plenty; one small thing finished is a good practice.
There is no tally, streak or total on this page on purpose. A missed day is just a day; the next practice starts from the next small goal.
Nothing on this page is stored or sent. Print the card, or copy it onto paper.
