Skiing
For the grown-up beside a child who loves skiing.
The child's own door is Skiing on Spark & Anvil.
There is no Whetstone tool or course for skiing yet, so this page is the sideline card and your child's ladder.
Three numbers to notice
- The trail signs in North America: a green circle, a blue square, a black diamond. They compare runs on this mountain only; a green here can be a blue somewhere else.
- A slope’s steepness in percent: 100% is a 45° slope, where the ground drops one metre for every metre forward.
- The Responsibility Code posted at the lifts has 10 points; the first is to stay in control.
On the way home, ask: “Which run would you choose again tomorrow, and why?”
Ask because you are curious, and let any answer stand. Print this page for a half-page card.
Numbers checked against: Ski Safety U.S. (NSAA): Know before you go; NSAA: Your Responsibility Code; worked by hand, line 2 (a rise equal to the run is 45°)
