Bridge
For the grown-up beside a child who loves bridge.
The child's own door is Bridge on Spark & Anvil.
There is no Whetstone tool or course for bridge yet, so this page is the sideline card and your child's ladder.
Three numbers to notice
- 13 tricks a deal, and a bid of 1 promises 7 of them: six “book” tricks plus the number bid.
- High-card points: ace 4, king 3, queen 2, jack 1, so the whole deck holds 40.
- Four players, two partnerships, each dealt 13 cards.
On the way home, ask: “Which card today do you think won the most important trick?”
Ask because you are curious, and let any answer stand. Print this page for a half-page card.
Numbers checked against: WBF Laws of Duplicate Bridge 2017 (Definitions: odd trick; Law 6, the deal); worked by hand, line 2 (the usual 4-3-2-1 count: 4 suits × 10 = 40)
