Birds
For the grown-up beside a child who loves birds.
The child's own door is Birds on Spark & Anvil.
There is no Whetstone tool or course for birds yet, so this page is the sideline card and your child's ladder.
Three numbers to notice
- How many of each kind you saw. Bird counters keep a number, not just a tick.
- A ruby-throated hummingbird beats its wings about 53 times a second.
- Wingspan, tip to tip: a bald eagle’s is about 204 cm, wider than a tall grown-up is tall.
On the way home, ask: “Which bird today would you most like to follow for a day?”
Ask because you are curious, and let any answer stand. Print this page for a half-page card.
