Baseball
For the grown-up beside a child who loves baseball.
The child's own door is Baseball on Spark & Anvil.
At the event
Three numbers to notice
- The count: balls, then strikes. Four balls is a walk, three strikes is an out, and 3-2 is a full count.
- A batting average is hits divided by at-bats. A .300 hitter gets about three hits in every ten at-bats.
- The innings: nine of them, and three outs for each side in each one.
On the way home, ask: “Which pitch today do you think was hardest to hit?”
Ask because you are curious, and let any answer stand. Print this page for a half-page card.
The same idea at every age
- Ages 3–5Three Strikes, One Out
- Ages 6–8The Line Score
- Ages 9–14A .300 Hitter
- Ages 15–18Why Hot Starts Fade
Your child will meet this idea again at every age. The tools and courses here are the part for you.
